Question

Can you find any examples online of either technical inaccuracies or continuity problems? (Please post links.) How could these problems have been prevented and/or how could they be corrected? What continuity issues will you have to worry about when shooting your sample video?

An Example from my classmate

The example that readily came to my mind when thinking of a technical inaccuracy in production would be the famous Starbucks cup that was accidentally displayed in a Games of Thrones scene. This is an error because firstly, it appears as if one of the crew members accidentally left their drink on set. However, it is also a big error because the coffee chain Starbucks did not exist during the medieval time period in which the series takes place.

This could have been prevented if the director and crew thoroughly checked the set to make sure everything was in place before filming this scene. After causing a stir online, the error was actually corrected, as the coffee cup was digitally edited out of the scene.

Continuity issues I will have to worry about could be similar to this, such as making sure objects that don’t belong in the scene will not accidentally be in the scene, or making sure that objects do not mistakingly appear in one of the shots of the scene when they are not in the other shots. When filming multiple shots for a scene, I must also make sure that the person is sitting in the same spot and is in the same position, which is challenging for both the actor and director. This is why one must analyze the previous shot when setting up the actor for the next shot.
