Mattelyn’s Discussion Post What does it mean to “act like a family”? A family is a group of individuals rather biological or not that care for one another unconditionally. I think a family can act as crazy or as structured as it wants to be. The vibe of those individuals tackles life with one another. They do things with one another that each other would be interested in. They create traditions that each other would like. They love each other hard and with charity to the best of their abilites. What behaviors do you associate with your familial relationships? I think its very instinctly that they oldest have the strongest leadership skills. I think its natural for the youngest one to be more carefree and open about their needs and wants. I am a middle child and I do believe we are often over shadow so we are more independent. I think with being a mom or dad. Its more of a trail and error thing. I do not believe it comes natural for some. My dad is not a traditional dad. He is more a long distance friend. My mom is more of a best friend you talk to every now and again. I think with being a mom and a dad it depends on the situation and if its really wanted. Discuss your group differences, rituals, expectations, family behaviors. I think for my family we learned alot of life lessons early. As a child, we grew up looking out for one another like cooking and cleaning for one another. I think its expected now for us to fight for our lifes to be different and not make the same mistakes as our parents. I think we look at our lives as a chance to change the narrative for the future family tree. My family is really urban and can act more for self than together. I love hearing about family traditions and I believe as my little clan gets older we will be way more settled and develop those. As for now, we like to party with one another for birthdays and holidays. Isabella Ammerman post What does it mean to “act like a family”? Acting like a family includes sticking with each other even if times are hard. Family is the solid foundation you should be able to rely on in all situations. Though family does include biological it can also include close friends. Acting like a family is having an inseparable bond that is separate and unique from others around them. Not every family will be alike. All are unique and different. What role behaviors do you associate with familial relationships? Within my family each family member has their own responsibilities and roles to fulfill. My parents are the providers. They provided housing, food, and necessities. They encouraged us to get a job when we were old enough. Which all of us greatly appreciated, paying our own car insurance and buying what we wanted. Taught us money management at a very early age. My siblings’ roles in the house were keeping up with chores and their grades which I believe is mostly the same for every household. Every family is different and role behaviors will be different for every individual. Rituals Within my family our ritual is very important and understood as a priority. We make it a point to at least have a meal together once a month. We are very close knit and with us all being older and out of the house change can be hard. This is our way of keeping in touch and driving us together. All of my family members express how this simple act creates an event to look forward to monthly. This simple system put in place by my parents has created something that will be used by myself when I have children.
