Need to respond to two student discussions with at least 150 words minimum for each response. Below in the bold are the questions the students are responding to.
For this assignment, create a new message and address the following items in your response.

Identify two specific ways in which security for enterprise computing is different from personal computing.
Describe two techniques to help reduce the insider threat.
Explain the difference between passive and active attacks on a network. Give an example of each

Student one:
Good Evening Class, we are now in the home stretch! Best of luck to everyone here.
Personal computing and enterprise computing are very simply the difference between a computer owned by you the end user and a computer used to perform a function on a higher level for a corporation. Protecting a personal computer is usually as simple as safe browsing and up to date anti-virus. Enterprise involves much more, firewalls, penetration testing, training, software standards and policies. Each of these functions of security serves a different purpose within a corporation.
The topic of an insider threat is such a hot button issue within corporations. This term covers many different aspects of threats to a company but the underlying connective concept is that a person within an organization uses that access to cause damage to an organization or its people. Many companies are employing specialists to limit the exposure and investigate the persons that may intend to cause harm. The US Army has employed 7 processes to limit the exposure to an insider threat.
– Screen the Army
– Clear the Army
– Protect the Networks
– Secure Installations
– Share Information
– Establish/Operate the Hub
– Train, Report and Respond
(Caleb, 2016)
The most important aspects of this list is to notice a pattern. That is to secure what is valuable to the infrastructure, limit the damage done by training the employees (in this case soldiers) on what to notice for someone who is an insider threat in the making.
Due to this being such a new form of threat to organizations the criteria in which to evaluate and categorize possible threats is still evolving. Within my current occupation we are establishing an insider threat program and rely heavily on big data management and looking at patterns that exist within case studies for the various threats, theft, data piracy and hostile acts are some of the most common form of insider threat.
Finally the difference between active and passive threats on a network. A passive attack is something that is intended to not be noticed immediately and tends to hide in the background, this is similar to phishing attacks and Man in the Middle. An active attack is something that is unleashed to cause damage and interrupt the networks day to day activity and may not be intended to remain quiet and unnoticed.
Dan
Caleb. (2016, August 17). Reducing Insider Threat. Retrieved from https://www.army.mil/article/173551/reducing_insider_threat
Smith, R. E. (2016). Elemantary Information Security. Subury: Jones& Bartlett Learning.

Student two:
Enterprise computing, in contrast to personal computing, relies on more than just one person caring about cyber security. In order to have an effective computer security posture, all employees must be on board with making sure that their online practices are safe. In personal computing as well as enterprise computing, a single user can exercise great care while using the internet, however, “if an employee must choose between computer security and meeting a deadline for the company president, computer security isn’t going to win” (Smith, 2016). Another way that personal and enterprise computing differ is the amount and type of threats. An enterprise computing network is more likely to be attacked than an individual because companies have more information that hackers might want.
Reducing an insider threat is simply a matter of making some tasks only doable by multiple people. When a person is able to complete a task alone, they are much more likely to be an insider threat than when they are required to work with others. Monitoring personnel is another solution to insider threats. If an employer regularly checks on an employee or has a system where they can monitor work that is getting done, the employee is far less likely to do anything wrong.
A passive attack is when information is viewed and data is collected. If an attacker were to hack into a bank manager’s email and read how much money a person just transferred would be an example of a passive attack. An active attack is when someone prompts the user to do something by sending them information. If the person who looked into the bank manager’s email sent an email that asked for information on previous transactions, that would be an example of an active attack.

Need two 100 words discussion responses for the following student discussions. Below in bold will the questions the students are answering.
Questions:

The Linux Operating System is becoming more popular every day due to its cost and availability. As in any operating system investigation, there are certain things that the investigator must look for, discuss these files and logs.
How would you conduct an investigation of a Linux system?
Apple Macintosh Operating System is also one of the top operating systems used. It differs from all of the other operating systems in many ways. Discuss how you would investigate an apple system, discuss the tools used and the files, logs and file systems.

Student one:
Greetings Class,
Conducting an investigation on any operating system requires due diligence in order to preserve the integrity of the evidence being evaluated. Therefore, to properly accomplish this a forensics copy must be made so the investigation can take place on the copy opposed to the original. In Linux, and other Unix based operating systems, a copy can be conducted directly from the shell with the command “dd”. Other beneficial commands that could be used directly from the shell are the “ps” command which will show all current running processes for the user logged in, and the “who” command which will identify the user(s) currently logged on the system.
Linux, like any other operating system contains areas of interest to forensics investigators that can help piece back a picture of what the device was being used for. Important areas of interest include the directories and logs which can be accessed directly through shell commands. One of the first logs of interest is the “/var/log/faillog” log which shows if and how many fail attempts in logging into the device. This can be beneficial in the case you are determining if the device was hacked or not. The “/var/log/mail.*” log will show data associated with the mail server which can contain incriminating evidence from messages sent or received from the device. Additionally the directories can contain valuable information when conducting ones investigation. To name a few, the “/root” directory contains user information for the root users which is usually the administrator and the “/usr” directory shows subdirectories for individual users
Apple utilizes an operating system that is based off of FreeBSD which is a Unix clone. Therefore investigators can utilize the same shell commands to work in the terminal and make a clone of the disk by using the “dd” command. Another benefit for investigators is that Apple has a “Target Disk Mode” which can be activated to prevent the disk being written to prior to making a disk image. Additionally you can view live running processes prior to shutdown without compromising the evidence. And just like Linux, the terminal can be used to extract information swap file, users logs, and other areas within the directory.
James Duran

Student two:
Class,
1.Linux files and logs are built within the system in order to keep track of what is going on within a system. The Linux files and logs can give an insight of the health of a system, errors that could be occurring, the actual security of a system as well. This system can help an administrator as well as the investigation but can be a very slow process in order to find that actual evidence that is being needed. The logs can give the investigator a general idea of what has happened within a system and the log represents a record log of sorts of what has happened within certain areas of a system.Every thing that happens with the system can be can be researched from the files and logs.
2.In order to conduct an investigation with a Linux system, the investigator would have to start with the fail logs. The fail logs help identify if that has been a number of failed attempts in trying to gain access to a system. This step would be a great starting point to get an idea of the attempted system cracking.
3.Apple systems can be investigated just like any other operating system when the investigator begin with the logs. The logs are the tell all of what is going on with a system. The directories will give an investigator a plethora of information just as the files and logs would. The different tools that can be used while investigating an apple system would be similar if there was an investigation with Windows or Linux.Target disk mode, shell commands, and searching virtual memory are tools that can be used.

Assignment Instructions
Week 3 Around the Web with Cognitive Psychology
150 Possible Points
This assignment is intended to enhance your ability to make connections between the course readings and “real-life” situations and the everyday occurrence of cognitive processes as depicted in popular media and professional research sources. This is your opportunity to express your thoughts succinctly and coherently. Be creative, but ensure that the reader is to able to discern that you can critique the article/media source in a scholarly way as related to course material. This is a great launching point as you begin brainstorming for the Week 7 Creative Project.
Assignment Instructions
For this assignment, you are tasked with identifying a research article or reliable, popular media source (news segment, blog article, etc.) that focuses on a topic related to cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, of a specific process or function of these area have addressed in the first three weeks of the course.
Upon identifying your select media option, you will draft a 5 to 6-page reflection paper, summarizing the media sources’ topic, and its relevance to our understanding of cognition and learning. Any topic discussed in our readings is fair game, but needs to be clearly depicted in the source you chose.
In your submission, please be sure to clearly address the following topics:

Briefly describe the article/media source you selected (e.g. its plot, characters, themes, etc.).

This description does not need to be lengthy (the entire plot or process explained does not need to be explained; hit the high points).
Rather, the summary should be sufficient to demonstrate that you reviewed the article/media source and can convey the most relevant aspects as they relate to cognitive psychology.

Describe the cognitive psychology concept.

What does it mean in relation to your article/media source?
How you see it displayed in the article/media source you chose?

In this case study, you will apply your Statesmanship model to a public administration context dealing with organizational change, design, and structure. Remember to discuss the importance of the following:

Noncentralization
Covenant
Systems theory and environmental awareness
Responsiveness to political forces and constituent management
Effective crisis management and statecraft

Case Study scenarios must be taken from documented (published) public administration contexts; no hypotheticals are allowed. Students can focus on one particular public administration organization or may refer to a particular situation (well-documented by the research) that many public administrators face.
All ideas shared by the student must be supported with sound reason and citations from the required readings, presentations, and additional research.
Integrate Biblical principles as part of your case study analysis.
The paper should be 4-5 pages of content in length (not counting the title page or references), double-spaced, and in APA format.
All required readings and presentations from the assigned module must be cited.
3-5 additional sources must be used. This need not be scholarly so long as they are provide relevant political and economic analysis of your chosen nation. Wikipedia may not be used (though certainly the student is welcome to review its content), and informal blogs are not appropriate.
