Option Two:
Create a similar idea to the play R&G are Dead, which was inspired by the question, what do R & G do when they’re not on stage, about another character from Hamlet. Write a scene from that play. The scene should be 5-7 pages in length, involve stage directions, and more than one character. You should also indicate where within the play Hamlet your scene is taken by either ending or beginning with lines from the original play. You may work on this with a partner.
If individual, you will receive a grade for your script. If you work with a partner, each person will receive an average grade of how their partner evaluated their help and the grade for the script as a whole. Bonus points will be awarded to scripts that go above and beyond.
Option Three:
Write an essay about R&G are Dead, of approximately 1000 words. There are several prompt options for this: a) How is the play an existentialist drama? b) How is this play an Absurdist drama? c) Discuss the themes and messages of the play d) How the playwright uses specific, absurdist devices to explore the themes of the play.
The themes of the play include: Death, and humanity’s Inability to control, comprehend, or even describe what it is to die, fate versus free will, human nature and Identity, how do we know who a person really is? More broadly- certainty, trust, truth, friendship, change, and death. This is an Independent assignment.
