Background information

Air pollution refers to the occurrence of substances in the environment that are harmful to human health and the health of other living organisms. The types of air pollution may include gases, particulates, and biological molecules. According to the World Health Organization, air pollution results in nearly seven million deaths every year around the world. At least nine out of ten individuals breathe in air that exceeds WHO’s limit according to the guidelines given for pollutants. Individuals from middle and low-income countries suffer the most out of air pollution (Tvinnereim, 2017). Several factors cause air pollution. Some of these include the emission of gases from the vehicles on the road; another cause of air pollution is industries; they emit gases, dust and some cause a lot of noise in the environment during the manufacturing process (Fattorini,2020). Other causes are energy use and production. Also, the burning of fossil fuels releases gases and chemicals that are harmful to the environment.

Research question

What are the effects of air pollution on human health?

This question will require scientific research to find out the effects of air pollution on human health.

Significant of an experiment to the field of biology.

This experiment aims to look at the causes of air pollution and the effects on human health; this research will also look at the ways of reducing air pollution globally.

According to Glencross’s (2020) research, there is significant inequality in exposure to air pollution and the related health risks. Therefore there is a need for more research and resolutions on combating air pollution.
