The simple believeth every word but the prudent man watches his steps

Now the Jews were more noble than those is Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Proverbs 14:15 begins with the word believeth which insinuates something must be accepted as true. If it is accepted as a simple fact, it may not have been proven valid or possess much tenacity. According to Crawford, tenacity is the persistence to maintain (2016). This scripture is inferring wisdom and caution are of extreme importance before arriving at a decision. To arrive at a sound decision or belief the statement or variable in question may need to be tested. To test a variable science will be employed. Science is an empirical based study that uses a system of data collection and culmination of knowledge to arrive at an educated decision (Crawford, R. 2016). According to Crawford (2016), some beliefs within our society are completely fabricated and when research is conducted society learns of the betrayal by our modern-day media. For example, the belief that married couples engage in less sex than non-married couples demonstrates a false ideation within our culture. This particular scripture is highlighting the need to not simply accept or believe anything we hear, but to evaluate and examine facts in a scientific manner to arrive at an intelligent decision.

Acts 17:11

When breaking down this particular scripture I felt the Jews were being portrayed as a virtuous people with better morals than the Thessalonians. To accept this statement without review and study of facts could prove to be supremely bias. I feel that a study on the Jewish people and population of Thessalonian’s within scripture may aid in the decision-making process. I would start by naming my variables within the experiment which would be the Jews as the first variable and the Thessalonians as the second variable. I would furthermore add a control variable in the hopes of eliminating any bias or a false skew in regards to data population. I would randomly select the third variable from a list of other tribes or churches listed in the bible. The church at Corinth, Ephesus, or Tyre are just a few choices to be selected from. One could number these choices and then roll a dice to randomly select a control variant. Science employs the use of control or a direct manipulation of a selected variable and its elements (Crawford, R. 2016). According to Crawford (2016), the use of control helps demonstrate the use of comparison and in some instances shows cause and effect.3
