Paper #1 / Domestic Macroeconomic Issue

The first paper is aimed at explaining and exploring a domestic (US based) macroeconomic topic with a focus on the application of theories covered in class.
The course offers a wide latitude for independent work. With this in mind two papers of at least 1,200 words each is required. I will provide details and guidelines as to the structure and key components during class. A bibliography of at least four sources is required (the class textbook must be cited).
The first paper is due Monday April 29,2019. The paper must be submitted in the Submission drop box in the class D2L. I will print out all papers and return them to you with comments/suggestions and a grade. I believe that feedback is important. I am looking for a clear understanding of your topic which incorporates a minimum of 4 economy theory points learned in class. The Economist magazine is a great source in introducing topics. I have several back issues available to look over. I will also begin each class with additional topic ideas.
What follows are topics that are designed to guide you in formulating ideas. They are merely a guideline and by no means exclusive. You can use any of them yet I encourage “thinking outside of the box”. If you select a topic not listed below please consult me either after class, during office hours or via e-mail as to a topic you wish to explore prior to beginning your research. The goal is to enlighten both of us!

These are merely suggestions but should provide a starting point. I believe that instead of weekly homework assignments you will learn more by exploring a topic of interest to you and relating it to specific macroeconomic theory. I look forward to reading your work and will provide additional ideas each class as well as be available to advise along the way.
