Fairfield University Speech and Audience Discussion

1 month ago Qin Zhang Q2 messages How to organize messages or ideas in a speech? Reply OO Carla Bucherati 2 days ago RE: Q2 messages There are several ways to organize a message or speech. Topical, Chronological, Spatial, Problem-solution and Causal Organization. Topical organization moves from one category to the next. It show how things are related in a way that is clear. Chronological organization shows things in past, present and future. It is related to time order. Spatial orgaizaion is related by geographics. Problem-solution organization offers a solutions to a problem after it establishes the problem. For example I dont have a degree so I can take classes. Causal organization moves from cause to effect for example use of drugs to drug addition. To do so, you must keep them entertained, while keeping the story/speech in tact. One major factor of doing so is keeping everything in order (chronological order). Keeping everything in chronological order is important because it will ensure that the audience doesn’t get lost in what the speaker is presenting. For example, if the speaker is going back in forth in time, people may get easily confused. A Hide 4 replies (1 unread) 1 month ago Qin Zhang Q3 modes of delivery o What are the 4 modes of delivery? What are the pros and cons for each? Reply OOL Carla Bucherati 2 days ago RE: Q3 modes of delivery There are four modes of delivery to a speech impromptu, manuscript, memorized, and extempraneous. Impromptu is just delievring a speech with no preparation. It includes all the technical elements of a good speech however not well thought out. I don’t feel this is the best technic because you could forget something or seemed disorganized. The pros of this are that you appear confident and speak what you are thinging. The second is manuscript. This can feel overly prepared and non genuine. This takes a very long time for prepperation and reduces eye contact because you are looking at the speech. People may not feel as engaged with this method however since you are reading you wont forget anything. Memorized delivery allows full eye contact which is very good. whats bad is if you forget something you are in trouble. It also looses the genuiness of the material. Extempraneous delivery combines preparation with a off the cuff and preperation. I think this is the best way for delivery as you prepare with an outline and use tigger words to remember what you are saying while sharing information that you know. Reply OOL Charlie Mount 2 days ago RE: Q1 a speech If I had to present a speech and analyze my audience, the first thing I would consider is the amount of people in the audience. The first main factor is keeping in mind where you are speaking. For example, if a person is politically campaigning as a republican but they are in a democratic state, they must keep in mind their audience. They need to be careful not to be too conservative but at the same time they can’t make it seem like they are lying to the audience just to get some votes. The next major factor that a speaker must keep in mind is diversity. As I will stick with the example of a political campaigner, they must keep in mind who they are talking to. First, they must consider if the people are lower, middle, or upper class. What religion do these people practice, etc. this will impact everything that the speaker will say. Depending on what side the crowd leans, the speaker would most likely be more considerate of what the crowd believes in. Reply Quote Email Author Hide 2 replies (1 unread)

2. Create a Productive Study Environment

Establishing a conducive study environment is crucial for online learning success. Find a quiet, well-lit space where you can concentrate without distractions.
