i used to be self employed about 4 years ago and recently started working as self employed again. when i was self employed first, who i was doing work for would pay my tax for me and i just got payed straight to my bank and all i had to do was pay my national insurance. now i have started working for myself again but who i work for i give an invoice and receive a cheque which i have to pay my own tax and ni out off. when i registered as self employed again i had to get a new utr number as old one didnt work but i have registered and just need to wait for my utr number to come thro. i have searched the web to find help but im not very clued up on the papper work side of things so just need a bit of help. i know when i receive my utr number i will have to back date tax to the day i started as i havent payed any since starting my new job its only 3 weeks but i was wondering can i set up a direct debit on my bank account to pay my tax and ni every week as i get payed a set amount so will always be the same and i dont want a big bill at the end of the year. any help would be great as all i have read on this i dont fully understand as i used to get my mum to sort out all my paper work as she knew what to do but after my mum passed away i have to sort it all out now and havent really got any idea about it all. cheers 🙂
