PROJECT GUIDELINES

In this course you will complete an individual project. Choose the company name from the list provided.

List:

· Kellogg’s (K)

· General Mills (GIS)

· Comcast (CMCSA)

· Verizon (VZ)

· Merck (MRK)

· Bristol Myer (BMY)

· Federal Express (FDX)

· Illinois Tool Works (ITW)

Note: Please Choose and submit one company from the list, you will be told if the company chosen is available.

You will complete this project that will summarize key elements of the information from this course. The project will consist of an executive summary, Excel documents, PowerPoint and final presentation (verbal narration). All the segments should tie together and will likely overlap. At the end of the semester each learner will have to showcase their final presentation.

Excel
A ratio analysis including liquidity ratio, asset ratio, debt utilization ratio and profitability ratio. You should ideally show a sequential, industry, and company comparison (Comparable company 1-year). Along with the numbers should be some verbal comments on what you see and optimally, why this trend may be happening.

A 5-year cash-flow forecast for the firm based on assumptions you make. Show your calculations and state your assumptions! You need to show a weighted average cost of capital (W.A.C.C.) to start and arrive at a present value based on the 5 years, W.A.C.C., and terminal value. Also, show a second form of valuation other than the discounted cash flow methodology.

Note: The sample financial model is provided for reference.

PowerPoint
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of your findings. The presentation should discuss what you discovered about the firm and how you think they have been doing and may be doing in the future. Your presentation should be (maximum) 10 slides, not including the introduction and summary slides.

Executive Summary
Prepare a minimum 4-page executive summary of the findings from the analysis. Include some background on the firm:

What industry do they compete in?

Who are their competitors?

What political, economic, and/or regulatory challenges do they have?

You should mention what trends you see happening, what assumptions you made for a 5-year forecast, how does the present value compare to the current value? Give your opinion and why you believe what you do based on the numbers.

Final Presentation
In this stage at the end of the semester the final project submission should be in a presentation format. A slide deck presentation of 15-20 slides in length is the most common format. A verbal narration of approximately 15 minutes in length should accompany the presentation. You may choose to use an audio or video file to narrate the presentation. In this presentation summarize

everything that you have submitted in your previous module and make it in a narrative form so as to share your views.

Try utilizing a site such as VoiceThread, YouTube, SlideShare, Screencast-O-Matic, Google Docs, VisMe, etc. for posting the links to your Individual Project in this forum to share with your classmates and so the instructor can issue your grade. Please submit an active link in the assignment box in MyCC. The instructor cannot issue the project grade in the Forum format.

The presentation should follow APA formatting.
