TUI Physical and Emerging Hazards & Types of Variables and Data Analysis Paper and Discussion

TUI Physical and Emerging Hazards & Types of Variables and Data Analysis Paper and Discussion

Module 4 – Case PHYSICAL AND EMERGING HAZARDS
Assignment Overview
You are employed by a local municipality as environmental
health officer and are placed in charge of solid waste
disposal and management.
Case Assignment
Currently the county disposes of their municipal solid wastes
in a landfill. The landfill’s capacity will end in a few years and
a new option is being considered to manage solid waste
management in the county for the next 50 years. Write a
paper in which you:
1. Compare and contrast two alternatives for the county’s
solid waste disposal (for example landfill versus
incineration). Examples of factors to consider in your
analysis may include environmental impacts, human
health impacts, resource conservation or recovery,
occupational hazards for operators and sustainability.
2. Select the best method for solid waste disposal in this
scenario setting and explain your rationale.
Module 4 – SLP
PHYSICAL AND EMERGING HAZARDS
In this SLP, you will be a health and safety manager in a
company that has a manufacturing facility with multiple
occupational hazards. This setting could be a place where
you currently work, one that you may be familiar with, or one
that you just find interesting.
In your walkthroughs through the facility, you notice that
many employees have hearing aids. You also notice that it is
hard for people to hear each other because of constantly
pounding presses and constantly running conveyor belts.
Heavy equipment, cranes, and forklifts are constantly
operating in the factory as well. Another concern to address
is back injuries in this facility. Many are losing work days due
to back injury. Although they routinely perform tasks
involving heavy physical labor, during the construction
period, you decide to do a study to address noise exposure
and back-related ergonomics in this facility:
1. Design a plan to evaluate the noise levels to which
workers are exposed in this facility.
2. Examine the situation to decide if a hearing protection
program should be implemented and explain the
elements that need to be determined to make a
determination.
3. Design a plan to reduce the exposure of workers to noise
produced by equipment in this facility, particularly the
presses and conveyor belts.
4. How would you go about assessing the workplace for
ergonomics for musculoskeletal disorders, specifically
back related disorders?
5. Design a program to reduce these back injuries in your
workers.

TYPES OF VARIABLES AND DATA ANALYSIS
Case Assignment
Please read the following article, and address the questions
that appear below in a four-page paper:
Alvarez, C., Greene, J., Hibbard, J., & Overton, V. (2016).
The role of primary care providers in patient activation and
engagement in self-management: a cross-sectional
analysis. BMC Health Services Research, 16, 85.

1. What research question did the authors set out to
answer?
2. List the variables examined in this study.
3. What type of bias is inherent to the study design used in
the study?
4. Which type of PCP is most likely to indicate more
positive beliefs about the importance of patient
knowledge and involvement in his/her care? (Table 1)
5. Identify the results that are statistically significant, list the
highest tercile percentages for those items and their
respective p-value. What does the difference in p-value
mean? (Table 2)
6. What limitations were noted with regard to the study’s
findings and conclusions?
Length: 4 pages typed, double-spaced.
Module 4 – SLP
TYPES OF VARIABLES AND DATA ANALYSIS
Mastering research methods equips health researchers or
practitioners to develop a strong research proposal. This
skill is particularly important for seeking financial support to
conduct research studies.
In 3-4 pages, discuss the following as they pertain to your
study.
•
•
•
•
•
Data collection procedures
Variables and measurement
Data analysis procedures (e.g., appropriate statistical
test, software, etc.)
Study validation and ethics
Study Limitations
Conclusions
1. How your results will be presented (think about tables
and charts you can create).
2. How your results will be disseminated – would you like to
publish? If so, where would be a good place?
3. What the impact of your study may be (policy, practice).
Length: 3 to 4 pages typed, double-spaced.
1) EOH 502: Reflections on Course
Concepts
Reflection is a mental process that challenges you to use critical
thinking to examine the course information, analyze it carefully, make
connections with previous knowledge and experience, and draw
conclusions based on the resulting ideas. A well-cultivated critical
thinker raises vital questions and problems, formulating them clearly
and precisely; gathers and assesses relevant information, using abstract
ideas to interpret it effectively; comes to well-reasoned conclusions and
solutions, testing them against relevant criteria and standards; thinks
open-mindedly within alternative systems of thought, recognizing and
assessing, as need be, their assumptions, implications, and practical
consequences; and communicates effectively with others in figuring out
solutions to complex problems. (Paul & Elder, 2008)
In order to earn maximum credit, the comment should be more than
your opinion, and more than a quick “off the top of your head”
response. Be sure to support your statements, cite sources properly,
cite within the text of your comments, and list your reference(s). The
response must be a minimum of 250 words.

2) Discussion: Reflections on Course
Concepts
Given the readings and assignments in the course:
•
•
•
Identify and briefly discuss two concepts in this course that you
believe will be most applicable to the professional discipline you
will enter upon completion of your degree program.
What is the importance of these concepts to the professional
discipline?
How will you use these concepts in your future career?
Optional: Offer feedback on how the course and/or facilitation of the
course can be improved.
