Part 1: Unpacking a Standard In this module, you will unpack a standard, write learning objectives forthe standard, develop a table of test specifications for the standard, andcreate a curriculum map demonstrating the alignment of assessment,curriculum, and instruction. Directions: Identify a state standard, your grade level, and your content area. Follow the steps to unpack the standard. Identify the big ideas. State in complete sentences. Identify three enduring understandings. What do you want students to rememberafter they’ve forgotten most of the details? State in complete sentences. Use McTighe and Wiggins’ six facets of understanding to identify essentialquestions. Label each question with the facet of understanding explain,interpret, application, perspective, empathy, self-knowledge. Develop a concept map for the six essential questions that come to mind.Tutorials for developing a concept map are available at:Digital Learning Connections Resources and Tips Compose three measurable, standards-based learning objectives that specify the task,the condition, and the standard of performance. Before you write the objectives, thinkabout where your instruction will place the greatest emphasis. Select a topic for a one-week unit of study that best represents the standard, its bigideas, enduring understandings, essential questions, and learning objectives. Part 2: Develop a Table of Test Specifications In this part of the Application, you will apply Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy to create a table oftest specifications for a 10-item, summative, multiple-choice exam that measures studentperformance at the end of your one-week unit of study. Directions: Create the table in the Word or text document. (See example). Complete: the standard the title of the unit of study the grade level and content area total points for the exam (already noted) objectives from Part 1 Record the three levels of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy at which you are assessingstudents. To decide the levels, look at the verbs in your three objectives. What verbrepresents the lowest cognitive level? Record that level in your chart. What is the highestcognitive level? Record that level in your chart. What is the middle level? Record that level. Remember to think: Does at least one of the objectives represent the cognitivelevel specified in the standard? For the 10 multiple-choice items, determine the number of items and the percent ofitems per objective. To find the percent, divide the number of items by 10, the totalnumber of items on the test.
