Assignment Overview
As we encountered in Chapter 9, Encounter: Contact and the Clash of Cultures, Europeans – their ambitions blocked by the Ottoman Empire – turned to the high seas and set out on a global mission of exploration, expansion, and exploitation. One of the results was the “Columbian Exchange”, which has morphed into today’s globalization.
Chapter 13 we saw this world dominion of the West – driven by Industrialization and advancing technology – metastasize into colonialism and imperialism through the Nineteenth Century.
In Chapter 14 the promises of science and technology were shattered by revolutions, global economic collapse, and two World Wars.
